Alfred Gover

Was probably born in 1828. He was baptised on 14th December 1828 in the parish church of Bedhampton - St Thomas.

In the 1841 census Alfred [12] was living with his parents and five siblings in Bedhampton, near Havant, Hampshire.

In the census on 30th March 1851 his occupation was given as AGL LAB and he was living in Bedhampton with his parents.

Alfred married Jane TOMLIN.

Jane TOMLIN was born in Swanmore around 1827.

In the census of 1871 Alfred [42] a LABOURER AG and Jane [43] were living at 25 Seymour Street with their daughters Eliza [11], Ann [7] and Mary [4]. (Note: in this census Ann is actually Sarah Ann for some reason her first name has been ommitted).

In the census on 3rd April 1881 Alfred [52] occupation was given as SKILLED LABOURER (DOCKYARD), he was living at 4 Sultan Road, Portsea with his wife Jane [53] and 2 daughters Sarah Ann [17] amd Mary Louisa Lucy [14] both DOMESTIC SERVANTS (OUT OF EMPLOY).

Alfred died at the age of 62 during the 1st quarter of 1891 within the Portsea Island registration district.

In the census on the 3rd April 1891 Jane Tomlin [63] was living with her son-in-law James [40] a COACHMAN DOMESTIC SERVANT and daughter Sarah [37] at 67 Telephone Road, Southsea.

In the census on 3rd March 1901 Jane [78] was living with her son-in-law James C Taylor [40] a COACHMAN (DOMESTIC), daughter Sarah Ann [37] and their two daughters Ivy A Taylor [9] and Lily L Taylor [7] at 67 Telephone Road, Southsea.

Jane died at the age of 75 during the 4th quarter of 1902 in the Portsmouth registration district.
