The Gover Family

A Family History

Albert Gover

Was born on 31st March 1889.

In the 1891 census he is aged 2 and is living with his parents and brothers in 32 Jersey Road, Portsea.

On 31st March 1901 Alberts occupation is given as SCHOLAR, he is still living with his parents and brothers at 72 Langley Road, Portsmouth

During the census of 1911 Albert [22] a Jobbing Gardener was living with his parents William and Susannah and brothers Alfred [26] and Frederick [19] at 207 Powerscourt Road, Portsmouth.

Albert married a Lottie G Banks during the 1st quarter of 1915 in the Portsmouth registration district.

Lottie Gertrude Banks - was born on 19th March 1896.

In the census of 1891 Lottie [5] was living with her parents and 6 brothers at 27 Warwick Street, Portsmouth.

During the census of 1911 Lottie [15] was still living with her parents and 6 brothers at 35 Warwick Street, Portsmouth.

It is possible that Albert joined the 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards on 22nd February 1917 - that is if I have the right Albert of course. His address was given as 19 Kimbolton Road, Copnor.

On 29th September 1939 Albert [50] a Market Garedn Labourer and Lottie [43] Unpaid Domestic Duties were living at Crede Farm Cottage, Chichester R.D. with their daughter Irene [24] Paid Domestic Duties and son Alfred [23] a Nursery Knife Man. There is 1 closed record which may or may not be another child of the marriage, but as yet I have not found one.

It is possible that Lottie died during the 3rd quarter of 1974 within the Chicester registration district.
