Elfrida Eliza Gover

Was born in 1860.

In the census on 2nd April 1871 her occupation was given as SCHOLAR and she was living at 25 Seymour Street, Portsea with her parents and 2 sisters.

Elfrida married George McBRIDE in the 4th quarter of 1878 within the Portsea Island registration district (2B, 820).

George MCBRIDE was born about 1859 in Romsey, Hampshire.

In the census on the 3rd April 1881 George and Elfrida were living at 14 Cressy Place, Portsea. Georges occupation was given as SKILLED LABOURER and they had 2 daughters living with them.

In the census on 3rd April 1891 George [35] a MACHINIST STAY FACTORY and Elfrida [32] were living at 13 Cuthbert Road, Portsea with 3 sons Edwin G [11], Alfred J [8] and William C and 3 daughters Mabel A [10], Ethel M [6] and Edith L [4].

On 31st March 1901 George [45] a MACHINIST SHIPBUILDING HMD and Elfrida [41] were still living in Cuthbert Road this time with 4 sons Edwin G [21] a LABOURER PRIDDY HARD MAGAZINE, William C [11], Frederick H [6] and Walter R [4] and 2 daughters Mabel A [20] working in a STAY WAREHOUSE and Ethel M [16].

During the census of 1911 George [56] a Machine Hand Dock Yard and Elfrida [51] were livinhg at 13 Cuthbert Road, Kingston, Portsmouth. Living with them at this time was 3 sons and 2 daughters.

It is possible that Elfrida died during the 4th quarter of 1938 within the Portsmouth registration district.
