George Jacob Gover

George Jacob GoverWas born on 21st June 1898 in Prospect Road, Landport, Portsmouth. At the time of his birth his father Edwards occupation was given as Hawker.

In the 1901 census he was living with his parents, 3 brothers , 2 sisters and an aunt at 34 Jacobs Street, Portsmouth.

During the census of 1911 George [13] was living with his parents Edward [45] and Annie [40] and siblings Edward [20], Albert [18], Blanch [10], May [7], William [5] and Henry [2] at 34 Jacobs Street, Landport, Portsmouth.

George married Lilian Maud MARSHALLSAY on 22nd September 1923 in St Marks Church, Portsmouth. The mariage was witnessed by Frederick John Goodall and Arthur Gover and were married by Eric G Southam (?). At the time of his marriage George's ocupation was BUTCHER.

On 29th September 1939 George [41] a Meat Salesman (Wholesale) and also a Special Constable and Lilian [36] whose occupation was given as Unpaid Domestic Duties were living at 40 Dartmouth Road, Portsmouth.

George died on May 11th 1961 in St Mary's Hospital, Portsmouth. The cause of death was listed as Acute Leukaemia and Natural Causes. The certificate was received from PD Childs Coroner for Portsmouth and an inquest was held on May 17th. At the time of his death Georges occupation was given as A Plastic Bottle Trimmer.

Lilian died on 11th February 1982 in Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. The cause of death was 1a Cardiac Failure b Carcinomatosis c Carcinoma breast certified by JP Williams MB. The informant was Georgina Margaret Ball and the Registrar was H Downes.
