George Messem

Was probably born during 1843 as he was baptised on 19th November of that year at St Thomas' Church, Bedhampton in the County of Southampton. At the time of his baptism the family were living in Bedhampton and his father was a Labourer.

On 30th March 1851 during the census George [7] was living with his parents Richard [37] an Agricultural Labourer and Mary [36] and his siblings Henry [5], William [3] and Ambrose [6 months] in Bedhampton, Havant, Hampshire. There were also 2 lodgers a John Pettis [27] and Charles Chambers [31] both Agricultural Labourers.

During the 1861 census on 7th April George [17] an Agricultural Labourer was living with his parents Henry [49] an Agricultural Labourer and Mary [47] and his siblings Harry [15] a Shoemaker, William [13] and James [7] in Bedhampton Village, Havant, Hampshire.

On 19th June 1869 George married a Mary Ann FOOKER at St Faiths Church, Havant in the County of Southampton. Henry Critchett and Charlotte Davis were the witnesses to the marriage.

Mary Ann FOOKER - was born about 1843.

On 2nd April 1871 George [27] a General Labourer and Mary Ann [27] were living with their daughter Fanny [1] in Kings Head, Portsmouth Road, Bedhampton, Havant, Hampshire.

During the 1881 census on 5th April George [37] a Gardener Domestic Servant and Mary A [37] were living with their daughters Fanny [11], Louisa [6] and Anne [4] in 4 Snooks Cottage, Bedhampton, Havant, Hampshire.

On 5th April 1891 during the census George [46] a Gardener and Mary [46] a Cook were living with their daughter Annie [14] a School Monitor at Upper Mill, Main Road, Bedhampton, Havant Hampshire.

Mary Ann died during 1900 and was buried at St Thomas' Church, Bedhampton in the County of Southampton.

During the census of 1901 on 31st March widower George [57] a Gardener (Domestic) and daughter Fanny [31] were living near Bidbury, Bedhampton, Havant, Hampshire.

On 2nd April 1911 George [68] a Gardener Domestic and daughter Fanny [41] a Dressmaker] were living in Eastern Cottage, Bedhampton, Hant, Bedhampton, Hampshire.

George died during 1815 and was buried on 15th November 1915 at St Thomas' Church, Bedhampton in the County of Southampton. HP Stokes performed the ceremony.
