Bessie Madeline ROGERS

343. Bessie Madeline ROGERS, daughter of Mark ROGERS and Emma Jane BARNECUT, was born on 5 July 1871 in Liskeard. She was baptised on 21 June 1891 in Trevelmond on the Liskeard, Weslyan-Methodist Circuit.

Bessie M appeared in the census on 3 April 1881 aged 9 at this time she was a Scholar. She was living with her grandparents William [63] a Tailor and Helen [65] in Trevelmond, Liskeard, Cornwall, England. Also, in the household was her aunt Helen M Martyn [26].

Bessie M appeared in the census on 5 April 1891 aged 19. Her occupation was School Teacher. She was living with her grandparents William [72] a Tailor and Helen [75] in Trevelmond. Her aunt Helen M Martyn [37] was also living with them.

Bessie Madeline married Caleb SALT during 1899 in Liskeard.

Caleb SALT, was born on 30 June 1872 (date from 1839 Register) in St Winnow, Cornwall, England.

During the census on 31 March 1901 Caleb aged 28 whose occupation was Grain Merchant and Bessie aged 29 were living in Trevelmond, Liskeard. Living with them was Bessie’s aunt Helen M Martin [47]. (RG13/2192/99/21)

During the census on 2 April 1911 Caleb aged 39 who was a Corn Merchant and Bessie [39] were living in Trevelmond. Living with them was their son Cyril Bryant [6], Bessie’s aunt Helen Mercy Martyn [57] and Gladys Helen May White [13] a niece who was at School. (RG14PN13637 RG78PN804 RD292 SD2 ED12 SN125)

Bessie M died during 1946 aged 74 in Liskeard. She was buried in the St Cleer General Cemetery on 19 March 1946, Rev. Buckley performed the ceremony. At the time of her death Bessie had been living at Sunnyside, Trethevy, St Cleer.

On 29 September Caleb who was a Market Gardener was in the household of Lotan Bunt a Chargeman of Fitters (Retired) at 9 Maple Grove, Plymouth C.B., Devon, England. (RG101/6775E/022/29 Letter Code: WEAH)

Caleb died in 1952 aged 80 years in Liskeard, Cornwall, at the time of his death he was living at Trethevy, Darite. He was buried in the St Cleer General Cemetery on 4 September 1952. The ceremony was performed by Pastor Harris.
